Siegmund's first

Sixth-seeded Laura Siegemund today won her first singletitle on WTA-tour

Sixth-seeded Laura Siegemund today won her first singletitle on WTA-tour , dispatching rising Czech star and qualifier Katerina Siniakova 7-5, 6-1 at Ericsson Open in Bastad.

I´m so happy. This is one of my favourite tournaments and its was here I first played in a maindraw on WTA, says Siegemund.

Exept for last year I always played well here. I think it has to do with if you really like a place and and enjoy your offcourt-time it adds to your performance.

After a tricky opening set in the final Siegemund to run away with the win in 83 minutes.

- My plan was to play aggressive claycourttennis. She likes to hit and be inside the court and dominate. I tried to make her move because she probably was a little bit tired after qualifying here.

After her stunning week in Sweden Siegemund is projected to not only crack the Top 40, but also tentatively reach a career-high ranking of No.32 which means that she maybe will be seeded at the upcoming US Open.

Before that she makes her Olympic debut in Rio.

But first of all I will go home and have some time off and and enjoy this moment, says Laura Siegemund who almost gave upp her pro-career three years ago.

One of the reasons was all the travelling, all the waiting and all the things outside the two hours on the court.

She started to study psychology which gave her I new perspective on her tennis.

- Those two years were so important for me and also for my tennis. I´m more relaxed and feel more free on the court.

Siegmund vs Siniakova in the final

The finals at Ericsson Open are set.

Defending champion Johanna Larsson lost her semifinal against 20-year old rising star Katerina Siniakova in two straigt sets, 7-5, 6-1.

- She’s got a really strong straight backhand and she got me where she wanted. My tactics was to try to push her and stay on her forehand. Since she stands so close to the baseline it’s important to have sufficient depth but I did not manage that to day, said Larsson.

Siniakova will play her first WTA final on Sunday. And she will face 28-year old Laura Siegmund who defeated Julia Goerges. After 4-6, 6-3 and 4-0 Goerges retired in due to a leg injury.

In the doubles final Lesley Kerkhove (NED) and Lidziya Marozava (BLR) will take on Andreea Mitu (ROM) and Alicija Rosolska (POL)

Only 20 days remains to Ericsson Open

Over the next two weeks will we see which of the Bastad-players who are the hottest

Time for Wimbledon.
And maybe time for Angelique Kerbers second Grand Slam-title?

Worlds No.4 makes her ninth Wimbledon start, was in the semifinals four years ago and can now serve without pain which  was not the case in French Open.

"I mean, the time after Paris, few days going home, having a lot of treatments for my shoulder and everything, that was good for me like mentally, physically, everything, to get this time, getting a little bit down. Right now I'm feeling good, so the shoulder is already much better. Yeah, no pain when I'm serving”, says Kerber.

Her exit in first round on Roland Garros was disappointing but also meant that she got more time to prepare for Wimbledon.

"Of course after few days, I was disappointed still. But, to be honest, I was not watching Paris from this moment. I was going home, I was taking my time off, because it was a lot in the last few months. I was trying to take these days just for myself, spending the time at home, then trying to be ready also mentally and physically with my shoulder to going on court, yeah, going there and giving again everything.

So I just saw a little bit the final, but that was it. I know from Paris, I just know that it was raining the whole week. This is what I know."

Kerber is allround and says she likes to play on grass.
I mean, it's always nice to have a few tournaments on grass of the year. It's always something different. On grass, the rallies are not so long as on clay and also on hard.

I like to have the short rallies, or, like, also to going for it. What is really important on grass is the serve and the return. That's the two shots, they are really important. This is what I like. I don't dislike grass, so it's always good on grass for me”, says Kerber who plays Laura Robson in the first round.
